Faversham House achieves B Corp certification
Faversham House, the independent publishing and events company behind Utility Week, Utility Week Live and edie, has achieved B Corp certified, joining a global community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact.
Faversham House received confirmation of its B Corp certification after more than two years of tireless work involving dozens of staff from across the business, plus assistance and guidance from impact consultants Seismic.
There are now more than 2,000 certified B Corps in UK, all of which are legally committed to bring benefit to all business stakeholders including staff, customers, communities and the environment.
Faversham House CEO Amanda Barnes said: “We are immensely proud to be a Certified B Corporation, and to be delivering truly sustainable content and events our audiences can be proud to be part of.
“As the publisher of Utility Week and edie, we know our audiences are playing a leading role in the all-important transition to a net zero economy. We are equally committed to leading the transition, and thanks to the rigorous B Corp certification process, can demonstrate how this runs through our DNA as a business. Our audiences can be assured that we share their values and we’re working together, to make business a force for good.”
As part of the B Corp implementation, Faversham House has refined its content and events offerings, seeking to represent a more diverse array of speakers and thought leaders and to ensure that attendees and readers are equipped with the insight and inspiration they need to make change in their own professional roles.
In addition, Faversham House is pioneering sustainable events, working with its exhibitors and partners to reduce waste and use sustainable materials, transport and energy. Faversham House has also implemented a programme to prioritise plant-based menus, reduce food waste and other waste streams at its events, as well as work towards net zero in its own office environment and work with its partners and supply chain to help them monitor and reduce their own carbon footprints.
B Impact Assessment:
Faversham House scored 103.3 points through the B Impact Assessment. To certify as a B Corp, businesses must score at least 80 points in the B Impact Assessment. The average score for non-certified businesses who complete the Assessment for the first time is currently 50.9 points.
The B Impact Assessment is a rigorous assessment tracking the impact a business has on its staff, its customers, the environment and the communities in which it operates. It also assesses governance practices within businesses.
Businesses are required to recertify every three years. As such, Faversham House will need to recertify by February 2027.
